Bachata festivals

Bachata is Dominican rather than Cuban, and appears here because many festivals run it alongside Cuban styles. It began in the 1960s in Santo Domingo's poorer neighbourhoods as bitter guitar music, and was looked down on for decades before going global. The traditional and modern forms have since diverged sharply.
