Saoco Cuban Festival

Three hundred people, forty hours of classes and live percussion in Aix-en-Provence. Small by design.
Saoco reaches its fourth edition in 2027, run by two Aix-en-Provence schools, Rock'Caliente and Kebola Dance, across two venues in the city: Europia and La Nativité.
The number worth noticing is three hundred. Most European festivals with this reach run to a thousand or more, and the organisers cap this one deliberately, describing it as à taille humaine. If you have ever come away from a large weekend having danced with nobody twice, this is the opposite proposition.
Over forty hours of workshops cover Cuban salsa, timba, son, guaguancó, rueda and rumba, several of them taught to live percussion, alongside bootcamps and a themed talk. Twenty-nine artists are billed, among them Yuniel Gual, Danger and Marielkis, Royma Román, Yosniel Brunet, Jaison Rodríguez and Wilmer and María, several of whom also teach at Guaguancó and the Berlin festivals in the same season.
The three evenings open with a pre-party class and run mostly on Cuban salsa, with some bachata.
