Guaguancó Festival bills itself as the largest international gathering devoted to Cuban music and dance, and the programme backs the claim: four days in which the whole resort turns into a Cuban party rather than a series of classes in a function room.
Live music is the spine of it. Iconic orchestras play the main stage, traditional son groups roam the corridors between rooms, and folklore performances run through the afternoon as well as the night. If you have been to festivals where the live band is a single Saturday concert, this is a different proposition.
The teaching side is serious too, drawing instructors well known in Cuba and internationally: Yoyo Flow, Yusimi Moya, Héctor Oviedo, Julio Manguero, Ismaray Chacón, Diana Rodríguez, Yeni Molinet, Yenifer Lavine, Jorge Camagüey, and the partnership of Mari and Jorgito.
Dancers come from more than 46 countries, and the weekend combines workshops, shows and competition with a great deal of straightforward celebration.

Guaguancó Festival es el mayor encuentro internacional dedicado a la música, el baile y la esencia de la cultura cubana. Durante cuatro días vibrantes, el festival transforma cada espacio en una auténtica fiesta cubana: presentaciones en vivo de orquestas icónicas, agrupaciones de son tradicional recorriendo los pasillos, y espectáculos de música folklórica tanto de día como de noche, creando una atmósfera única llena de energía y tradición.
