Cuban salsa, salsa cubana, is the circular partner dance that grew out of son and mambo in Havana in the 1950s and 60s. Where linear styles travel along a slot, Cuban salsa turns around a shared centre and the lead's arms do much of the work. It is the base for casino and rueda, and the style most festivals in this guide are built around.
