Rumba Guaguancó festivals

Also known as Guaguancó, Guaguanco

Guaguancó is the best known rumba form, a couple dance of pursuit and refusal in which the man attempts the vacunao, a symbolic claim, and the woman blocks it with the botao. It came from the docks and solares of Havana and Matanzas in the nineteenth century, and is danced to drums and voice alone, with no melody instruments.
