Son Cubano festivals

Also known as Son Cubano, Son Montuno, Son, Son Havanero

Son is the root. It came out of eastern Cuba in the late nineteenth century, reached Havana in the 1910s, and is the form nearly everything else here descends from. Danced, it is slower and more grounded than salsa, walked rather than turned, with a characteristic pause. The Buena Vista Social Club recordings are what most people outside Cuba have heard.
